
Frank Frizelle 
Frank is President of the Colorectal Surgical Society of Australia and New Zealand (CSSANZ). He is Professor of Surgery at the University of Otago ; Christchurch, New Zealand and colorectal surgeon at Southern Cross Hospital and Saint Georges hospital Christchurch, New Zealand.
Frank trained in general surgery in New Zealand before undertaking post fellowship training in colorectal surgery at the Mayo Clinic, and a laparoscopic fellowship and lecturer in surgery in Scotland. He returned to New Zealand in 1996 as senior lecturer in surgery at the University of Otago, Christchurch, before being appointed Professor of Colorectal Surgery in 2000. He was Head of the academic department of surgery from January 2006 to February 2019. He subsequently took on the role as director of surgery for Canterbury and the West Coast until March 2024.
Besides his FRACS Frank has fellowships from the American College of Surgeons (FACS), The American Society of Colon and Rectal Surgeons (FASCRS), the New Zealand Medical Association (FNZMA), has an honorary fellowship from the Royal College of Surgeons of Ireland (FRCSI), Royal College of surgeons of Edinburgh (FRCSEd) and the American Surgical Association (FASA) and is an honorary life member of the Association of Coloproctology of Great Britain and Ireland (ACGBI).
Frank has been involved in many professional committees including the National Cancer Control Committee (2007-11), and has the Chairman of Section on Colon and Rectal Surgery (RACS), chairman of the CSSANZ-RACS post fellowship training board in colorectal surgery (member 2000-2014 Chairman 2011-13), Chair of the NZ Colorectal Cancer Management Guidelines (2008-10). Chair of the NZ National Bowel Tumour Standards (2012-14). Frank is Patron of the Canterbury Stoma Society since 2015, medical advisor to Bowel Cancer New Zealand, since 2016, Chairman of the National Prostate Cancer registry since 2017,Trustee of the canterbury charity Hospital since 2017, Chairman of the Canterbury Cancer Foundation since 2019.
